Millions of people have pets in the U.S. Many people love dogs, while others love cats, and some people have both in their home. As inflation has pushed the cost of just about everything up in the last few years, pet food hasn’t been spared. The cost of feeding our beloved pets has went up a lot, making it challenging for some people to afford the food. The good news is that there is assistance for pets for African Americans and others who need help.
When people have difficulty paying for the food for their pets they not know what to do. Some people turn their pets over to the human society or try to find a new home for them. They don’t want to do that, but they do not know what else to do to keep them getting enough food. Knowing where to turn to get help for our furry animal friends is important, so that we don’t feel we have to give them up due to the financial challenges.
Getting Assistance to Care for Pets
It costs an average of $1,400 per year to have a dog, and a little less than that to have a cat. This doesn’t include if people need extras throughout the year, such as veterinary care if their pet gets sick or needs something. It also doesn’t include if they need to hire a pet sitter or walker during work hours. This is the basic costs of taking care of a pet throughout the year.
